I once called into a radio station to answer a trivia question about who first recorded this song. I tried to explain to the nunbskull that the first known recording was by a teenage girl from Middlesboro Kentucky by the name of Turner, or perhaps Clarence Ashley and the the song has been around for much longer than that. He insisted that the ANIMALS HAD BEEN THE FIRST!!!!! LOL As a former radio trivia show host here's a hint. Always do your research before making a fool of yourself on the air.

This was recorded on the spur of the moment and featured the legendary Son House (the man who Robert Johnson idolized) - Willie Brown (the same Willie Brown that Johnson mentions in Crossroads) and "Fiddlin" Joe Martin. It was recorded in front of a grocery store (Clark Grocery - the store sign is now in the delta blues museum) you can hear a train roll by while they record. Without Son and Willie we probably would not have ever heard of Robert Johnson and without him rock and roll would have had a much different sound most likely.

Their pay for recording this was one soda pop, between them.
